Dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood cancers, we are now The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world’s largest voluntary (nonprofit) health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services.

Professional oncology social workers provide free emotional and practical support for people with cancer, caregivers, loved ones and the bereaved.

NAMI believes that public policies and practices should promote access to care for people with mental health conditions. NAMI supports a nation-wide toll-free hotline that can adequately respond to people experiencing mental health crises.

In 1986, the founders of NCCS set out to establish an organization that would replace the words “cancer victim” with “cancer survivor,”
and bring about a different notion of the cancer experience. The founders envisioned an organization that would deal
with the full spectrum of survivorship issues related to living with, through, and beyond a cancer diagnosis.

The National Society of Genetic Counselors advances the various roles of genetic counselors in health care by fostering education, research, and public policy to ensure the availability of quality genetic services.

The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is a professional association that represents 100,000 nurses and is the professional home to more than 35,000 members. ONS is committed to promoting excellence in oncology nursing and the transformation of cancer care. Since 1975, ONS has provided a professional community for oncology nurses, developed evidence-based education programs and treatment information, and advocated for patient care, all to improve the quality of life and outcomes for patients with cancer and their families.

The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) Foundation for Learning, Inc. (AONN+ FFL) is a specialty organization created in 2009 through affiliation with AONN+. AONN+ FFL is a separate legal entity that oversees the Oncology Nurse Navigator–Certified Generalist (ONN-CG) and Oncology Patient Navigator–Certified Generalist (OPN-CG) certification exams.

Miles Against Melanoma is a national organization that began in 2010. Our mission is to provide the public with education regarding the extreme damaging effects of the sun and tanning devices.  Through MAM’s mission, we provide funding for awareness, education, advocacy and research for skin cancer, melanoma and cancers related to melanoma.

NC Care 360

NC Care 360 is a pioneering healthcare network for oncology resources in North Carolina, dedicated to fostering collaboration among healthcare providers, insurers, and community organizations. Through integrated care models and cutting-edge technology, NC Care 360 ensures seamless coordination of services, enhances patient outcomes, and promotes wellness across the state.

Lung Cancer Initiative is the leading nonprofit in North Carolina that provides support to the lung cancer community by connecting patients, survivors, and their loved ones with the medical and research community. Our mission is to advance survivorship and provide support to those affected by lung cancer through research, education, and access programs in NC and beyond.

QuitlineNC provides free cessation services to any North Carolina resident who needs help quitting commercial tobacco use, which includes all tobacco products offered for sale, not tobacco used for sacred and traditional ceremonies by many American Indian tribes and communities. Quit Coaching is available in different forms, which can be used separately or together, to help any tobacco user give up tobacco.

NCI-DESIGNATED COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTERS IN NORTH CAROLINA

NCI-Designated in 1972, the Duke Cancer Institute is a highly-collaborative and innovative cancer center that focuses on integrated patient care, game-changing cancer research, synchronous collaboration, and the best cancer and healthcare researchers and physicians in the world. The Institute consists of more than 300 experts who conduct basic, clinical, translational, and population sciences research across 11 disease sites, including select progressive initiatives such as brain and spine metastasis, immunotherapies, and oncology-primary care interfacing.

NCI-Designated in 1975, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center is the largest research entity within UNC and North Carolina’s only public NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. UNC Lineberger has played a critical role in advancing the understanding of the genetics of cancer by conducting interdisciplinary research through nine programs: cancer cell biology, immunology, molecular therapeutics, virology, cancer genetics, clinical research, breast cancer, cancer prevention and control, and cancer epidemiology.

NCI-Designated in 1974, Atrium Health-Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center (WFBCCC) offers nine cancer care locations across the Wake Forest Health Network, providing access to cancer care and expertise to the Piedmont and southern Appalachian region. The WFBCCC’s cancer research activities are focused on four programmatic areas: Cancer Prevention and Control, Neuro-Oncology, Cancer Genetics and Metabolism, and Signaling and Biotechnology. Additionally, with over 250 clinical trials available, the Center offers more cancer-related clinical trials than any other hospital in the region.

Transportation & housing

The American Cancer Society Road To Recovery® program eases your burden by giving free rides to cancer-related medical appointments. Our trained volunteer drivers are happy to pick you up, take you to your appointment, and drop you off at home. All for free and all to make your days a little easier. Not having a ride shouldn’t stand between you and lifesaving treatment. 

Air Charity Network coordinates flights to fly organ transplant candidates, people involved in clinical trials, chemotherapy or other repetitive treatment, victims of abuse seeking relocation, families receiving help from Ronald McDonald Houses, Shriners Hospitals and many other charities, disabled or sick children to special summer camp programs, and for many other humanitarian reasons.

Corporate Angel Network (CAN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to help cancer patients access the best treatment centers in the United States by arranging free travel on corporate aircraft. Business jet travel makes it possible for patients, especially those in locations with minimal airline access, to travel to specialized medical centers. Whether a patient is traveling for surgery, clinical trial, or a second opinion, CAN aims to reduce a patient’s physical, emotional and financial stress by providing a seat on a corporate flight.

Joe’s House is not an actual house, but a nonprofit organization that helps cancer patients and their families find a place to stay when traveling away from home for medical treatment. 

Mercy Medical Angels provides information about all forms of charitable, long-distance medical transportation and helps with referrals.

The mission of RMHC is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families. Our vision is a world where all children have access to medical care and their families are supported and actively involved in their children’s care.

SECU Family House is a safe, nurturing, affordable home for patients and their loved ones who travel great distances to UNC Hospitals for life-saving procedures and serious illnesses.

We provide guests lodging, meals, supportive programs, transportation and a caring support network. We serve families from all 100 North Carolina counties and beyond, helping them rest, heal, and gather strength when they need it most.
